The Village of LaGrange is a non-home rule municipality and operates under the Counsel / Manager form of government.  The Board of Trustees consists of the Village President and six Trustees. The President and the Board members are elected officers. Each of these serves without payment. Their terms are for four years. Also, their terms are staggered so that an important continuity is maintained.

The Board employs a Village Manager, who serves as Chief Administrative Officer  This position was created by ordinance in 1961.  The Village Board is responsible for establishing Village policy which in turn, is implemented on a day-to-day basis by the Village Manager and staff.

The Village Board appoints a Manager, Treasurer, Attorney, Police Chief, Fire Chief and Commissioner.  Appointment of all other department heads is made by the Village Manager.
